What Are Carbohydrates?

Carbs Can Be anything from simple, whole, complex and highly refined. Which ones are you eating more or less of? Do you noticed how each type affects your health, your hormone balance, and weight management?

APPROPRIATE, HIGH NUTRIENTS, NECESSARY! INCLUDE MORE OF OF THESE! >RICH COMPLEX CABRS, VEGETABLES, ROOT VEGETABLES, WHOLE FRUITS, WHOLE GRAINS, BEAUTIFUL BEANS & LEGUMES! Include more of these types as they are the right and perfect fuel.

WHITE AND BEIGE REFINED CARBS LEAVE YOU EMPTY AND ARE FOUND TO BE NON ESSENTIAL, ZERO NUTRIENT, EMPTY CALORIE, IN WHICH WE NEED TO EAT LESS OF! Consume less of these types and treat them as treats once in a while, not as fuel.

Carbohydrates are a major macronutrient and the primary source of energy for the body and brain. In terms of structure, there are two types of carbohydrates: SIMPLE & COMPLEX.

They are called carbohydrates because, at the chemical level, they contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Unlike essential amino acids and fatty acids, there are no essential carbohydrates. This means we can obtain everything we need nutritionally from other food sources, so carbs are not necessary to maintain life.

However, hormonal interactions in carbohydrate metabolism is very important as we want to still include the appropriate carbs in the way of veggies and fruits for sure, especially when we are dealing with hormones and hormone balance! See more below:

THE ROLE OF CARBOHYDRATES

Although not essential in the diet, carbohydrates can have some critical functions to play: Don’t go carb free, go crappy carb free instead!

Crappy carbs leave you feeling crappy, Good Carbs are the primary source of energy which will leave you with more energy, better neurotransmitter function ( less depressive feelings and thoughts) good gut health, a balanced gut garden is needed! And important hormone function for all the chemical messaging that signals all body systems, for the metabolism of fats to support hormone function and brain health, and B-vitamins which are needed as they are also a great source of cholesterol metabolism for important hormone function!

Insulin that is secreted from the pancreas is the key hormone of carbohydrate metabolism, it also influences the metabolism of fat and proteins. It lowers blood glucose by increasing glucose transport in muscle and adipose tissue and stimulates the synthesis of glycogen, fat, and protein.

Stressing the body with too much refined carbohydrates only leave us depleted and robbed of rich minerals and vitamins and which can increase INFLAMMATION, oxidative stress creating more free radical damage to the cells, more stress hormones such as cortisol and epinephrine which antagonizes insulin action. Not a good thing! Crappy carbs leave for crappy cravings and less control over optimal metabolic functions. Is it time for a carb overhaul?
